Our Family History. Who we are.
Our Ancestral Foundation
The Moore family lineage is grounded in the union of Willis Moore and Ellen Moore, whose families form the earliest known roots of our history.
Willis Moore was the son of Fannie Moore
Ellen Moore was the daughter of Nellie Gilbert
By preserving the lineage of Fannie Moore and Nellie Gilbert, we honor the matriarchs whose legacy flows through every generation that followed.
Willis Moore (born June 4, 1842; died February 1, 1926) and Ellen Moore (born November 24, 1857; died July 29, 1931) were married on October 8, 1876. From their marriage came twelve children, forming the branches from which our family continues to grow.

Loranzy & Beatrice Moore: The Heart of This Legacy
North Carolina was the birthplace of our parents Loranzy and Beatrice Moore, and the foundation of the Moore family story. In the early 1930s, seeking opportunity and stability, our father left North Carolina for West Virginia to work in the coal mines. Like many families of that era, this move marked the beginning of a journey defined by hard work, faith, and perseverance. After several years, he returned home, and in May of 1934, Loranzy & Beatrice united in marriage.
Following their union, the family settled in Slab Fork, West Virginia, where they built a life rooted in love, faith, and resilience. Slab Fork was a small coal-mining community, but it became “home” in every sense of the word. It was there that memories were made, children were raised, and lifelong bonds were formed. Though the work was difficult and the times were often challenging, the strength of family and belief in God carried them forward.

Faith. Family. Dedication. Our Foundation
Loranzy Moore served as a pastor, a calling that deeply shaped our family’s values. While the responsibilities of ministry often required sacrifice, including long journeys to serve congregations. Faith remained the cornerstone of our household. Beatrice Moore, steadfast and devoted, balanced family life with church involvement, anchoring the household with love and dedication.
Tragedy touched the family with the loss of children at a young age, reminders of how fragile life can be. Yet even in sorrow, the family leaned on faith, drawing strength from one another and from God. These losses left lasting impressions but also reinforced the importance of unity and remembrance.
Family reunions became a cherished tradition, especially beginning in the late 1960s. These gatherings served not only as celebrations but as acts of preservation. Opportunities to reconnect, honor the past, and pass stories to the next generation. Over time, reunions were held in several states, reflecting how the Moore family spread across the country while remaining connected at heart.
The sudden passing of our matriarch Beatrice Moore in 1987 marked a profound moment of loss. The family patriarch, Loranzy Moore followed several years later in 1992. Though their absence was deeply felt, their legacy lives on through their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and every generation to follow. Their lives stood as examples of faith, perseverance, service, and unconditional love.
A Living Family Circle
Today, the Loranzy & Beatrice Moore family legacy continues to grow. Each generation carries forward the lessons instilled by those who came before. The importance of family, the power of faith, and the value of remembering our roots. This history is not only a record of names and dates, but a living story. One that honors the past while inspiring the future.
As the years go by and the family expands, this history serves as a reminder that our strength lies in knowing where we come from and in honoring those who paved the way.
